FAQ - Is there an issue with installing Noritz tankless water heaters on "off the grid" or solar power sources?
Article Number: 191 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Fri, Dec 12, 2014 5:12 PM
A common issue with "off the grid" installations is the voltage signal that feeds the tankless water heater. Noritz water heaters require a pure sine wave voltage signal to operate properly. In situations where the unit will be installed on "off the grid" or solar power sources, the voltage signal should be verified. If a pure sine wave signal is not provided, an inverter will be required. Please contact a specialist within your area for further information about an inverter.
If a pure sine wave voltage signal is not supplied to the unit, a 71 code will appear and unit will not fire. This issue is can also appear when a battery back-up (UPS, uninterrupted power supply) does not provide a pure sine wave voltage signal.
